Brockworth Cemetery Improvement Plans

Brockworth Cemetery Improvement Plans

Brockworth Parish Council has plans to make improvements to Brockworth Cemetery and we are really keen to gather the views of local people, families and those with an interest in the Cemetery before we move forward with the project. Our vision is for the Cemetery to continue to be a welcoming, pleasant and well maintained place for people to visit and remember loved ones and that is:

• fully accessible, safe and easy to move around for anyone visiting the site
• well laid out, which maximises burial space and overall capacity of the site to meet future needs and extend the usability of the site
• natural, green and beautiful cemetery that is sensitive to its surroundings and the environment

We have appointed specialist cemetery design architects to draw up the improvement plans and to advise and guide us through this important project. The plans show how we will deliver our vision for this special site and include the following:

• Creation of garden of remembrance/reflection area to include a seating area
• Defined areas for cremations and burials, with specific ideas for the design of the cremated remains areas that is attractive, maximises burial space, is more integrated into the site layout and makes better use of the whole site.
• A designated children’s area with associated seating area.
• Creation of a dedicated vehicle access point for site maintenance and funerals
• Paths around the site to improve accessibility and use of the site, connecting the entrances, main areas and footpath that runs through the cemetery
• Improvements to site access points particularly routes from bridge over Horsbere Brook and to the new housing development and new noticeboard and site information point
• Electrical supply to support lighting and CCTV and a suitable design for a sensitive lighting scheme to increase safety and usability of the site
• Planned locations for memorial trees and benches, that incorporates those already in place and provides for future purchases.
• Screened area for spoil, compost and waste management on site

We would like to re-assure you that all existing graves and memorials will be fully respected and are unaffected by the proposals and every care will be taken to ensure that any disruption to the site is minimised.
